Question 2. What is the role of CPU?

Answer – CPU’s full form is Central Processing Unit. CPU is also called as “The Brain of a Computer “. It manages all the operations in a computer.

It has three main components –

ALU (Arithmetic Logic Unit)

CU – Control Unit (Controls all hardware)

MU – Memory Unit (Stores Data)

 

Ques. 3 what do you mean by ports in computer system? Write any three names of ports.

Answer – A port is a slot on the computer that is used to connect other component and devices like Monitor, Mouse, Keyboard, Play station etc.

1.Serial port – It is used to transfer data.

2. USB port – Universal Serial Bus port is used to connect USB devices like Mouse, Keyboard etc.

3. VGA Port – Video Graphics Array port is used to connect Monitor to CPU

 

Q4. What is system software? What are the types of system software?

Answer – System software is a type of computer program that is designed to run a computer’s hardware and application.

There are three main types of system software –

1.Operating System – It works as mediator between computer hardware and the user.

Example - Mac OS, Microsoft Windows etc.

2. Programming Software – It is the software used by the computer to understand and convert instructions from programming language into machine language.

Example – Compilers, interpreters, assemblers.

3. Utility Software – It manages the computer hardware, operating system and system software.

Example – Disk defragmenter, Backup Utility, WinZip.

I.                    Single user – These OS allows only one user to access the computer example – Palm computer and DOS

II.                  Multi user operating system - multiple users can access one computer at a time. Example – Linux, windows etc.

Advanced Features of PowerPoint 2016

Important Definitions –

 Q1. What is software? Explain its types.

Ans- Software is a set of instructions, data or programs that are used to operate computers and execute specific tasks.

Software can be classified into two broad categories: System Software and Application software.

System software - System software is a program designed to run a computer's hardware and applications. It also manages its resources, such as its memory, processors and devices.

Example – Windows 10, Mac OS etc.

 Application software – It is a program designed to help users perform specific tasks.

Example – Word Processors, Spreadsheets, Presentation Software, Database Management System (DBMS), Multimedia Processors, Image Processing Software.

Q2. What is PowerPoint?

Ans. PowerPoint is a presentation graphics software from Microsoft that lets you create presentations using slides, graphics, videos, and other features. The file extension of a saved PowerPoint presentation is “.ppt”.

 Q1. What will happen if we select the Print All Slides option in the print settings while printing?

Ans. If we select the Print All Slides option while printing, it will select all the slides in the presentation.

 Q2. What is the use of action buttons?

Ans. Action buttons are some built in shapes which you can add to your slides. This action happens when you either click an object or hover your mouse over in a slideshow.

Ans. Notes page is used to print slides with notes.

Ans - Microsoft Excel is an application software created by Microsoft. It uses spreadsheets to organize numbers and data with formulas and functions. It uses .xlsx extension to save a worksheet.

Ans. To change row height and column width follow these steps: 
Step 1: Select the column(s) or row(s) that you want to change.
Step 2: Click on Format command in Cells group from Home tab. 
Step 3: Choose Column Width or Row Heights option. 
Step 4: In the Column Width or Row Height box, type the value that you want your column or row to be.

Q3. How will you apply cell borders?
Ans. To apply cell border follow these steps: 
Step 1: On a worksheet, select the cell or range of cells that you want to add a border to, change the border style on, or remove a border from. 
Step 2: Go to the Font group in the Home tab. 
Step 3: Click the arrow next to Borders command. 
Step 4: Click on the border style you would like.

Chapter 5 - Formulas and Functions in Excel

 Q1. What is cell reference?
Ans. A cell reference is a cell address that can be used in a formula to denote a specific cell.

 Q2. What is the use of the Text functions in Excel?
Ans. . Text Functions is used to perform number of operations on strings (i.e. a collection of characters like ‘hello’, ‘friend’, ‘computer’, etc.) such as finding the length of a string, joining two strings, searching for one string inside another etc.
 Q3. What will be the output of =TODAY() function?
Ans.  Output:

Q1. What is the use of LEN function? Explain with example.
Ans. LEN function is used to return the length of the text string. For example: Input: =LEN(“Touch”) Output: 5

Q2. What are rules to enter a function?
Ans. Rules to enter a function are: 
 1. All Excel functions must begin with = sign. 
 2. Function name must be a valid Excel name. 
 3. Function must be followed by opening and closing parenthesis. 
 4. Most of the functions must contain an argument within it.

Q3. What is the use of Concatenate?
         Ans. It joins together two or more text strings. 
Input: =CONCATENATE("Touch","pad")
