1. Why did Lencho write a letter to God?

Ans. Lencho wrote a letter to God because he had lost all his crops in the storm and had no other hope. He asked God for 100 pesos to survive and replant his crops, showing his strong faith that God would help him.


2. What did the postmaster think when he saw the letter to God?

Ans. The postmaster was surprised and impressed by Lencho’s faith in God. He wanted to help Lencho, so he decided to collect money from his employees and friends to send to Lencho as if it came from God.


3. How much money did the postmaster collect for Lencho?

Ans. The postmaster was able to collect a little more than half of what Lencho asked for. He sent Lencho 70 pesos instead of the 100 pesos.


4. What was Lencho's reaction when he received the money?

Ans. Lencho was not surprised that he received money because he had complete faith in God, but he was angry when he saw that the amount was less than what he had requested.


5. Why did Lencho call the post office employees 'a bunch of crooks'?

Ans. Lencho believed that the post office employees had stolen part of the money that God sent him. He was so sure that God would give him the full amount that he didn’t consider the money could have come from anyone else.


6. Why is Mrs Pumphrey worried about Tricki?

Ans. Tricki became fat, like a bloated sausage. Since he had no energy, Mrs Pumphrey thought he suffered from malnutrition and over-fed him. He couldn't refuse food and that led to his present overweight state. He spent most of his time resting in his expensive tweed coats and did no exercise.
